Health education has become a primary factor in community healtlh work and in the practice of preventive medicine. Health education is defined as the stum of all experiences which favorably influence habits, attitudes, and knowledge relating to individtual, community, and racial health. School healtlh eduLcation is that part of health education that takes place in school or thlouigh efforts organized and conducted by school personnel. This practical workbook provides the basis for ani activity program planned especially for the practical traininig of teachers in service and for those in training. It is also useful for parenits, nurses, and social workers. It is the resuilt of a continuous experimentation with a college course for upper class-men since 1917. The material and activities are divided into four overlapping phases of the health education program,-namely, qualifications of the teacher of healthl, healthful school living, health service, and direct health education or health instruction. Activities include personal health surveys, field trips, selected readings, individual and group reports, observations, and practice teaching, the preparation and evaluation of materials, practice in making health examinations, the development of health units anid a tentative couirse of study in health and physical education, and individual and group conferences with the instructor.
